However, the non-accredited degree is not, by itself, recognized as an accredited degree. The course of study is rigorous and comprehensive, preparing graduates for the full range of professional activities in the field of architecture. It provides a solid intellectual base of knowledge in history, theory, technology, the social environment, and professional practice. Particular emphasis is given to developing mastery of design through an intensive series of design studio courses. Committed to developing independent thinking and resolving design issues, students are required to prepare a design thesis that serves as a transition from graduate school to professional practice. To attain registration for professional practice after completion of the degree, a candidate must complete an internship in an architectural office and pass a registration examination.

This year's rankings have introduced an Economic Mobility Index, which measures the economic status change for low-income students. ACT/SAT scores have been removed from rankings to reflect a general de-emphasis on test scores in the college admissions process. Graduates of these non-accredited programs will be limited in terms of where they can practice, as well as have additional requirements to earn an architecture license and NCARB Certificate. The National Architectural Accrediting Board (NAAB) is an agency that evaluates architecture programs in the United States to ensure that graduates are appropriately prepared to enter the profession.

He is minoring in landscape architecture from the University's College of Design to learn placemaking skills, site analysis, and planning review—all valuable skills for a planner. At the end of the spring semester of the first year of the Environmental Design Program, students will undergo a substantive portfolio review to assess their preparedness for the subsequent three years of the Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Design degree program. Total enrollment in the program shall be limited by the teaching resources and space capacities of the School of Architecture. In addition to the college preparatory curriculum, high school students planning on enrolling in architecture are especially encouraged to take art courses such as basic design and drawing.

Learners will utilize various software programs including Computer Aided Design (AutoCAD), 3D Computer Modeling (SketchUp), Building Information Modeling (BIM – Chief Architect & Revit), Animation/Simulation and Energy Modeling. As an educator, Korrin inspires students to find their passion in designing spaces that immerse the visitor in a sensory experience. She’s taken her experiences as a designer and a public artist into the classroom and beyond.
Other areas of employment open to the architecture graduate include construction, government service, industry, and education. Faculty from the architecture, urban planning and design program are also excited about the new degree offering. This new bachelor’s degree offering joins a current joint architecture program, in which students start coursework at UMKC and transfer to Kansas State University to complete a Master of Architecture.
Students begin the undergraduate program in the fall semester because the first course of the design studio sequence is offered fall semester only. Students that have completed their university core requirements or have completed a previous degree may enroll in an accelerated first year design sequence offered in the summer semester. Once admitted to the Environmental Design program, and after completing their fourth year design studios, students with an acceptable academic record may apply to the Master of Architecture professional program. Specific dates for graduate applications can be obtained from the main office of the School of Architecture.

The mission of the undergraduate program in Architectural Design is to develop students' ability to integrate engineering and architecture in ways that blend innovative architectural design with cutting-edge engineering technologies. Courses in the program combine hands-on architectural design studios with a wide variety of other courses. Students can choose from a broad mix of elective courses concerning energy conservation, sustainability, building systems, and structures, as well as design foundation and fine arts courses. In addition to preparing students for advanced studies in architecture and construction management, the program's math and science requirements prepare students well for graduate work in other fields such as civil and environmental engineering, law, and business. The Architectural Design Program is a pre-professional major that prepares students for graduate studies as well as entry-level positions in a variety of design fields including architecture, interior design, and landscape architecture.

For our online students, we keep this tradition by using web conferencing to interact with you. We also bring online guest reviewers and critics to participate in the design process. Communication and collaboration between students and instructors are key features in making the online educational process engaging and exciting. From handcraft to digital fabrication and from orthographic drawing to material prototypes, the techniques and medias our students learn are varied, exploratory and iterative.
